"Something in the Wind," on Saturday-Sunday May 20-21, is a celebration of the Washoe Zephyr, with expert kite flyers, kite making and other crafts for children, and an artists marketplace. Expert kite flyers from the Rogue Valley Windchasers kite club in Brookings, OR, will be on-hand to demonstrate kites and help you fly yours. Brett Morris, a VP of the American Kitefliers Association and the AKA Region 9 Director, will tell you all about kite flying, in two presentations each day. The Carson Valley Arts Council is the co-organizer, and CVAC volunteers will help children make their own kites and other wind-related crafts (see schedule below). All crafts materials will be supplied, with kite-making for younger children. Event sponsors are Soaring NV, The Record-Courier, Bently Enterprises, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Minden, NV, and the Frances C. and William P. Smallwood Foundation. This is a free event and perfect for families. Bring a picnic, a lawn chair and enjoy the park.
