Author Gary Noy to Speak on Sierra Stories
at Dangberg Historic Park
MINDEN, Nev.— Author Gary Noy will speak on his book,
Sierra Stories: Tales of Dreamers, Schemers, Bigots and Rogues, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, August 14, at 10:00 am.
Sierra College historian Gary Noy will share the unusual and lesser-known stories of Sierra Nevada history, with a special focus on events and personalities related to the Reno-Lake Tahoe-Western Nevada area. Among the stories, Noy will recount the tales of the Stephens-Townsend-Murphy Wagon Party, Alice Huyler Ramsey, the "Incline" at Lake Tahoe, the Snowshed Highway and the State Line Country Club.

Gary Noy was born in Grass Valley California and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and the California State University at Sacramento. Noy has taught history at Sierra Community College in Rocklin, California since 1987, and in 2005 was selected as Sierra College Instructor of the Year. He is also the founder and former director of the Sierra College Center for Sierra Nevada Studies and Editor-in-Chief emeritus of the Sierra College Press.
In 2006, the Oregon-California Trails Association selected Gary Noy as Educator of the Year. Noy is a member of the Board of Directors of the Sierra College Friends of the Library and the California State Library Foundation, and is the author of many newspaper columns and magazine articles on Sierra Nevada history and culture.
The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88m ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital. This is an outdoor event, and visitors should bring their own seating. Dogs are not permitted at this event. For more information, visit@dangberghomeranch.org.

The Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park is the 2012 and 2013 Reno-Tahoe Territory winner of the Nevada Commission on Tourism’s "Discover Your Nevada" contest. The site preserves the home of Heinrich F. Dangberg and three generations of descendants. The Dangbergs were a prominent ranching family in Carson Valley that founded Minden in 1905. The Park includes eight historic structures built between 1857 and 1917, along with a large collection of artifacts, documents and photographs. Programs include guided tours, concerts, Chautauqua and other public events. The Park is operated by Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, in cooperation with its owner, Douglas County.
