First Day Hike at Walker River State Recreation Area
on Tuesday, January 1, 2019
YERINGTON, Nev. – Join park staff on a moderate 4-mile round-trip hike along the East Walker River at the Pitchfork Ranch.
The route will follow an old ranch road for about 1.5 miles and then climb a hill to the ridgetop along rocky and uneven ground to a scenic overlook. Participants will enjoy a round of sparkling cider to celebrate the New Year! Along the way, park staff will discuss the current and future developments of the new state park and highlight a variety of flora and fauna of the region.
The hike will take approximately 2.5 hours. Please bring water, dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes.
WHEN: Tuesday, January 1, 2019, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
WHERE: Please meet at the Visitor Center at Walker River State Recreation Area, Pitchfork Ranch, 211 E. Walker Rd., Yerington, NV 89447. Directions from Yerington: drive south on highway 208 and turn left on East Walker Road. Continue 4 miles to the entrance of the Pitchfork Ranch.
COST: The event is free, however the $5 Day Use fee per vehicle still applies.
