Compressed air is used in all types of industries, from mining to dentistry, and offers significant opportunities for energy savings. In February, NV Energy hosts a free training to understand more about this energy-efficient technology. This training benefits customers, contractors, equipment suppliers, mechanical engineers, maintenance personnel and facility managers. Learning Objectives -Explore different types of air compressors, including reciprocating, screw and centrifugal, and how to select the correct compressor type -Understand how to properly size an air compressor and compressed air storage based on equipment SCFM requirements, duty cycle, cycle time and redundancy -Learn how to select the correct compressed air dryer type for the application including refrigerated air dryers, desiccant air dryers, heat of compression air dryers, blower purge dryers and cycling refrigerated air dryers - Find out how to maximize the efficiency of a compressed air system by utilizing variable frequency drives, storage, controls, flow control and point-of-use storage - Learn how to properly design a compressed air distribution system based on environment and application - Understand how to properly size compressed air piping based on the flow rate, expected growth, length of pipe run and meeting the peak demand while minimizing the efficiency loss - Learn tips to avoid the common pitfalls of compressed air systems Scott Wetteland is a Senior Engineer for Commercial Energy Services. He conducts facility energy assessments for large manufacturing, mining and processing facilities, and has experience developing utility facility energy assessment programs. Previously, Mr. Wetteland was Vice President at Allied Industrial Systems, utilizing energy efficiency and incentives to increase the profitability and market share for the company and its customers. Over the course of his career, he has designed and installed thousands of compressed air systems. Mr. Wetteland is passionate about using energy efficiency to find better solutions to meet customers' needs.
