GENOA, Nev. – Celebrate spring with a series of history talks, featuring some of Genoa’s infamous local legends, at Mormon Station State Historic Park.
History Talk: Snowshoe Thompson – Join a Park Ranger for a 30 minute history talk about the fascinating life of Snowshoe Thompson. Sometimes referred to as the “Viking of the Sierras,” this celebrated outdoorsman delivered mail from Genoa to Placerville during treacherous winter storms. Find out how he managed to brave these conditions and other interesting stories about this local legend.
WHEN: Saturday, March 25, 4 p.m.
WHERE: Meet at the Snowshoe Thompson Statue at Mormon Station State Historic Park, on the corner of Genoa Lane and Main Street. Mormon Station is located 20 minutes south of Carson City via Hwy 395, about one hour south of Reno, and, approximately 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe via Hwy 207.
