Description
Event Details Five ultra-athletes will retrace the steps of John “Snowshoe” Thompson’s inaugural mail route which he began on January 3rd, 1856, from Placerville, CA to Genoa, NV, 90 miles away and across the snowbound Sierra Mountains. Under the History Expeditions organization, known for trekking similar historical routes, the 100+ mile Snowshoe Thompson Expedition of 2024 will take place from March 6th (starting from Old Town Placerville) to March 10th, ending in Genoa. On Sunday, March 10th, you can greet the team as they arrive in Genoa around 11:30am, and follow them as they walk to the Genoa Cemetery for a special ending ceremony. Following the ceremony will be a special presentation at the Genoa Town Hall at 1:00pm.
