Wait a minute. CRA’s? What’s a CRA? Well, it’s the new name for the Chamber’s Community Recognition Awards Gala. You have to admit, the new name saves time.
 

The individuals and organizations to be recognized at this year’s Community Recognition Awards Gala on November 3rd have been selected.
Chosen from the nominations submitted by the public, this year’s group is:

Service Club of the Year    Carson Valley Lions Club

All will be honored at the CRA Gala at the Carson Valley Inn on November 3rd, along with the special recognition of retiring Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins and retiring Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. Tickets for the event, which is co-sponsored by the Chamber and The Record-Courier,  are $75 and can be purchased at the Chamber office, by calling the Chamber at 782-8144, or by clicking here. The evening includes dinner, entertainment, a silent auction and the awards.

GENOA, Nev. ? Mormon Station is located in the heart of the Genoa National Historic District, which encompasses over 25 structures and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.  Mormon Station will be offering guided walks of Genoa on four select Saturdays this fall.  Join a park ranger for an approximately one-mile trek throughout a portion of the historic district. During the walk, we will discuss the significance of the structures located along the route, as well as the previous owners of the properties and their contributions to the history of Carson Valley.
 
Pre-registration is required by emailing mormonstation@parks.nv.gov. Please include the name of each participant in your party and the date of the hike you would like to register for. Emails will be answered in the order they are received. Each program will be limited to the first 30 registered people.
 
WHEN: Saturday, October 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Saturday, October 27, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Saturday, November 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and Saturday, November 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Core 4 Comedy is coming to our Valley Ballroom  November 10 with a night of hilarity showcasing four professional touring comics including Host Jeff Anderson, Special Guest Luke Westberg, Feature Act Andy Picarro and Headliner Brian Lee. Tickets are now on sale and available online.
 
 
Headliner Brian Lee started doing stand-up comedy in 2000 and has gone from being a 10-minute opening act to headlining all over the United States and Europe.  In addition to being a veteran of the stage, he is also a Veteran of the U.S. military.  A combined 24 years between the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy has given him quite a unique perspective and the opportunity to perform around the world.  Brian invites all military to join him in honoring our veterans at the CVI on Veteran’s Day Weekend!

Brian’s motto has always been “talk about what you know,” and that’s just what he does. Drinking, relationships, lousy day jobs, family life, more drinking, and the possibility of a new religion are just a few of the topics Brian tackles. Brian also takes audience participation to a new level with his off-kilter game show, “Cerebral Punishment.” Brian is the co-founder of Core 4 Comedy, a.k.a. C4 Comedy which also includes the evening’s other three performers.

Free Spaghetti Lunch for Veterans and Military
This Sunday, November 11 at the Carson Valley Inn

 
The Carson Valley Inn is serving a Free Spaghetti Lunch for all Veterans and Active Military – plus one guest – on Veteran's Day, Sunday, November 11 in the Valley Ballroom. The event starts at 11 AM with the Presentation of Colors by the Douglas High School Jr. ROTC Honor Guard followed by the national anthem and invocation. The complimentary lunch service will continue until 2 PM. Veterans and active military personnel simply present your military ID for entrance and lunch for you and your guest is on the Carson Valley Inn!  If you don't have your ID, just tell the host about your service to our country and the CVI will welcome you!
 
This is the eighth year for the Carson Valley Inn's free Veterans Day Spaghetti Lunch which includes fresh tossed garden salad, spaghetti with choice of marinara sauce or Bolognese, garlic bread and assorted cookies.  This event has become a bonding, healing and reconnecting event for the hundreds of neighbors and community residents who attend each year. It’s also an opportunity to meet new friends who share patriotism and pride for our country!
 
The Carson Valley Inn (www.carsonvalleyinn.com) is located on US Hwy 395 in Minden, NV near the start of State Hwy 88, twenty minutes from Lake Tahoe's south shore and 45 minutes south of Reno.  The property includes a casino, sports and race book, 149-room hotel, 74-room motor lodge, 59-site RV Park, TJ's Corral Outdoor Concert and Event Center and a convenience store with gas and diesel fuel.  There are also banquet and meeting rooms and services plus three dining facilities; CV Steak, the Inn's Nevada-style steakhouse featuring steaks, seafood, pasta dishes and more; Katie's, for 24- hour dining choices and Job's Perk for coffee drinks, pastries and sundries.

Nov 17    Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley "Turkey Bingo"
The Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley will be hosting its annual Turkey Bingo on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the C.V.I.C. Hall in Minden. There will be three sessions, the first at 12 noon, the second at 3 pm, the third at 6 pm.

Bingo cards are 3 games for a $1.00 and there is no limit to the number of cards an individual may play. Games will last until all turkeys are given away and an exciting grand prize is awarded for each session. Tickets will be for sale at all sessions for raffle prizes. Free popcorn and coffee will be available; hot dogs, ice cream, chips, water and soft drinks available for purchase.

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley provide the turkeys and the grand prizes. Raffle prizes are donated by community businesses. Proceeds from the event will be used to support organizations that focus on the children in Carson Valley. For further information, including how to become a member of Kiwanis, call 775-339-8882.

Bingo Night on the 2nd and 4th Friday of Each Month.  Doors open at 6pm with a warm up game starting at 7pm.  The event is open to the public and cash prizes will be awarded.  Because of the cash awards, no one under the age of 21 can be admitted as required by the Nevada Gaming control Board.  The $21 Minimum package includes a 3-card warm-up, a 10-card play package, and a blackout/progressive card.  Additional cards may be purchased.  A progressive jackpot is available each night.  Complementary coffee and popcorn is available.  Nachos, hot dogs, hamburgers, beer, wine, bottled water, and soft drinks can be purchased. 

Each year the council selects up to 5 Bingo's to raise money for Carson Valley community service organizations.

Event kicks off @ 5 pm with music from the DHS Jazz Band & Fire Pits with S’mores. Kids who bring a canned food item or a donation for the Carson Valley Food Closet receive a goodie bag and a chance to help Santa light the Gazebo! Santa arrives at 6 pm to light the Gazebo! A free dance performance and much more!

Saturday December 1st ~ Parade of Lights
Craft Faire in the CVIC Hall from 10 am-8 pm. Music and holiday cheer starting in downtown Minden @ 5:00 pm. The 22nd Annual Parade of Lights ends in Minden Park.
